Are Temporary Tattoos for Adults Just A Fad?

This is a question that we have thought a lot about over the past few months: Are metallic temporary tattoos just another passing summer fad? Will they just fade away?

Temporary tattoos have been around since the times when we were little kids finding them in a box of cereal. For years the phrase “temporary tattoo” was synonymous with a cheap, small, and most likely cartoon inspired tattoo that could go on in a few seconds and last for a few hours. We would get them in party favors, in candy, in breakfast cereal, and in gas stations. As a kid I remember thinking they were fun and silly and not really that special.

Within the last 3 years the perception of temporary tattoos has changed. Professional artists, designers and influencers are producing classy, stylish, and fashionable designs that are targeted towards adults with the purpose of wearing them for a wide range of functions.

This temporary take on body art has been positive. Ranging from between $6 – $28 a set, metallic temporary tattoos are quick to put on, easily accessible, and easy to style with most outfits. They are available online and in an array of brick and mortar retailers.

When we wear them to the pool or the beach we just like the extra sparkle and visual interest. For us, they are a quick and relatively cheap way to change a look instantly and are great conversation starters. Plus, we’ve found that they are an absolute blast to bring out with a few friends (especially if you have a few artsy or creative friends – they always seem to come up with something really interesting).

The new wave of metallic temporary tattoos are genuinely fun to play and style with and usually start more than a few interesting conversations. What’s especially fun is wearing these overseas while traveling – they are still fairly new in other parts of the world and we have gotten some pretty amazing looks from locals while heading to the beach. To us, anything that we can enjoy alone or with friends and that makes us feel beautiful is a good thing. That kind of positivity is tough to find with most new products – sure, the designs will most likely continue to evolve, but we think metallic temporary tattoos, and the idea of temporary forms of intricate body art for everyday use, will continue to grow.
